Christ
Christmas Ornaments
We made these last year as a Christmas gift
to the Young Women. It was a big hit, and we had a great time as
a presidency putting them together. They are a little time consuming,
but worth it!
Materials:
-
Small Mirrors (I picked up packs of 6 for
$1.00)
-
Steel Wool
-
Trims
-
Fingernail Polish Remover
-
Paper Towels/Cotton Balls
-
Craft Wire
-
Card stock
-
Pictures of Christ (I scanned the above picture
and printed out 12 to a page to cut out.)
-
Felt
-
Glue Gun
-
Scissors
-
Pencil
Instructions:
-
Cut out the pictures to fit inside the circumference
of the mirror. Make sure you have a little bit of the mirror showing on
all sides.
-
Cut the felt and the cardstock using the mirror
as a template. We printed out the message, "Merry Christmas 1998
- Your YW Presidency" on the cardstock and then cut out around the type.
-
Using cotton or paper towels, rub a generous
amount of nail polish remover onto the back (painted side) of the mirror.
-
While wet, use the steel wool to rub in the
remover. Use a circular motion. You will need to press pretty
hard. Slowly but surely, the paint will begin to come off.
-
Rub off a small circle in the center of the
mirror - large enough to see the picture through, and small enough to leave
a reflective frame around it.
-
Clean the mirror back, and place the picture
on the glass.
-
Run a bead of glue along the outside edge
of the mirror back, and attach the felt. This will hold the picture
in place.
-
Make a loop out of the wire, and twist the
cut ends together. Glue to the top of the felt circle.
-
Glue the cardstock over the felt and the wire.
-
Cut your trim to fit the outside rim of the
completed mirror. This hides all of the rough edges and gives a nice
sparkle.
-
Glue trim to rim of ornament.
